Summer Mission Opportunities

Youth Summer Outreach and Mission Experiences

"and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave;  just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many." --Matthew 20:27-28

We are called to serve, and we are happy to offer our students opportunities to serve others over the summer. Join us for one of these opportunities to break down barriers and love our neighbors.

Christ Church Freedom School Teen Board

The Christ Church Freedom School is accepting applications for its Teen Board for the 2019 summer program. Teen Board is open to rising sophomores,  through college freshmen. In conjunction with Servant Leader Interns from Freedom school, the fifteen Teen Board members will work with Freedom School scholars ranging from 1st - 5th grade. This work will focus on boosting scholars’ literacy skills and exposing them to enriching cultural experiences.

Summer Teen Board members will commit to working as classroom assistants for two successive weeks between June 17 and July 26, 2018 from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Opportunities will include working in classrooms, accompanying teachers and students on field trips, planning activities, securing and delivering supplies, and other assistance as needed. Building relationships with students will be a key component of the experience.

In addition to serving as program assistants, the Summer Board members will commit to attend one orientation and training meeting: either May 16, 4:00 – 5:30 PM or June 2, 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM. This training will include exploring values of social justice, learning about the challenges of urban education and poverty in Charlotte, developing leadership and organizing skills, learning about the Freedom School literacy and science curriculum, and participating in Christ Church Freedom School volunteer orientation.

Youth Costa Rica Mission Trip: July 12-19, 2019

We invite all rising 9th graders - college freshman to join us this summer to take part in the first annual Christ Church trip to Estrada, in the Limón province of Costa Rica. We will be working alongside our Costa Rican brothers and sisters at Iglesia Santiago not only to help them rebuild their church, but to form relationships with the youth in Estrada that last beyond a week of mission. We are excited about the idea of a youth camp which would serve as the foundation for a year-round bilingual bible study between the youth of Christ Church as well as the youth of Iglesia Santiago in Estrada.

The total cost of the trip will be roughly $1600 - $2000 depending on number of participants and final flight itinerary. Confidential scholarship assistance is available.

Registration requires a $200 deposit and closes on Thursday, March 28, 2019. Click here to register.

Youth Glory Ridge Mission Trip: August 4-10, 2019

Glory Ridge is a multi-denominational Christian camp located in Madison County, North Carolina, on 28 acres overlooking the French Broad River. The camp hosts both weekend retreats and week-long work camps serving the surrounding community. The rustic facilities have been built by volunteers over the years and the camp has always emphasized the combination of work and worship.

For the last eight years, members of Christ Church have taken retreats to Glory Ridge and found it to be a place where their souls can rest, rejuvenate and connect with GOD in the ‘thin spaces’ of the glorious Blue Ridge Mountains. There is a Celtic saying that heaven and earth are only three feet apart, but in the thin spaces that distance is even smaller.

When we are not soaking up the thinness of the ridge, our youth will help residents of Madison County who are living in poverty. Work projects range from painting or building a handicap ramp to re-roofing a house or laying new floors. We all leave Glory Ridge enriched by our interactions with people who know that receiving is also a manner of giving. The lessons for young people are many and varied, but they all discover their common human experience and spiritual connection to the broader world.

Want to join us for this holy adventure? Our next trip is open to all high school youth and adults chaperones who have construction and DIY maintenance experience! Click here to register. The cost is $600 for the week and includes meals, lodging, transportation, and supplies for worksites. Registration closes on April 1, 2019 and will require a $150 deposit. Confidential scholarship assistance is available.

“The most important aspect of this camp has never changed. It is still a place where the lost come to find God when they are tired of fighting in this world alone. It is still a place where the warrior can come to bask in the glory of God’s presence to rejuvenate. It is still a place where youth of all spiritual levels can come and fellowship; reaching out to each other unlike anywhere else.”
- George Moore, Founder
