Youth Summer Volunteer, Mission, and Outreach Opportunities
"... and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave; just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many." - Matthew 20:27-28
We are called to serve, and we are happy to offer our students opportunities to serve others over the summer. Join us for one of these opportunities to break down barriers and love our neighbors:
Christ Church Vacation Bible School Teen Helper
We have made the very difficult decision to postpone our VBS fun for later this summer. The Diocese of NC has ordered no in person gatherings until May 17 at the earliest. With all of the uncertainty of what things will look like beyond that date, we agreed that it would be best to hold our resources for a date that feels more feasible given our current situation. That date will be determined closer to the end of May when we know more about how things will shape up when the worst of this is over.
Please continue to check back to this web page for updates - new dates, times, and registration details for teen helpers.
Christ Church Freedom School Teen Board
June 29 - July 31, 2020
The Christ Church Freedom School Teen Board is open to rising sophomores, through college freshmen. In conjunction with Servant Leader Interns from Freedom school, the fifteen Teen Board members will work with Freedom School scholars ranging from 1st - 5th grade. This work will focus on boosting scholars’ literacy skills and exposing them to enriching cultural experiences.
Summer Teen Board members will commit to working as classroom assistants for two successive weeks from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Opportunities will include working in classrooms, accompanying teachers and students on field trips, planning activities, securing and delivering supplies, and other assistance as needed. Building relationships with students will be a key component of the experience.
In addition to serving as program assistants, the Summer Board members will commit to attend one orientation and training meeting. This training will include exploring values of social justice, learning about the challenges of urban education and poverty in Charlotte, developing leadership and organizing skills, learning about the Freedom School literacy and science curriculum, and participating in Christ Church Freedom School volunteer orientation.
Youth Costa Rica Trip
We invite high school students to join us as we engage in true relationship building with our Costa Rican brothers and sisters. We will spend a majority of our time at the Altura Hotel near the Poas Volcano learning how to be in relationship together as we participate in a youth retreat like no other. We will combine efforts with youth from the Diocese of Costa Rica to learn from and grow with one another. Get ready for a new kind of spiritual awakening!
We will not be taking a group to Costa Rica this July due to COVID-19, but we plan to offer this trip in July 2021. We hope your child will join us! Confidential scholarship assistance is available.

This is a great opportunity for learning and growth for your middle schooler!
