Click here for the latest news. It is often in leaving familiar terrain behind that we discover we are ultimately one people in God’s family. And realize that there is much work to do, both near and far, to bring hope and healing to our world. From Appalachia to Africa, Christ Church has provided many such opportunities over the years. We host regular mission trips to Costa Rica, companion diocese to the Diocese of North Carolina, and have recently entered into a second companion relationship with the Diocese of Botswana. The devastation of Hurricane Katrina cleared a path for us to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, which may take a generation to rebuild.
Christ Church is deepening its efforts in all of these places with plans and programs that will have a profound and lasting impact. We will continue to pray and discern where God is calling us to mission work, which will include Haiti and Duff, Tennessee. Among the most exciting developments is a Microfinance Initiative for providing loans that will enable the poor to grow businesses and build assets for the future. Here at home, we’ve created a structure under which all of this great work can continue to grow in a focused, managed and thoughtful way. It is the newly formed Mission Commission. Whether it takes place in a distant land or in the same time zone, mission work is a humbling and wonderful passport to a richer relationship with God. Come walk the walk with us.
