Click here for the latest news. God’s vision for humanity is that we’re either working to make life better for all or are custodians of the way it is. Here’s the way it is in Charlotte: nearly 400 families with children are barely hanging on in temporary shelters, transitional programs and even on the streets. And this is the fastest growing segment of our homeless population. Charity in the form of a meal, a cot, a caring presence will likely get them through the night. But then what?
This is where justice comes in, the sheer will by those who are able to change the course of those who struggle mightily and help others avoid the same fate. Christ Church is entering into a partnership with Crisis Assistance Ministry called Partners In Prevention, a new model of prevention aimed at helping families on the brink of eviction. Together we will work with 50 households that will receive social work and other support services to provide an opportunity for financial stability. We also plan to collaborate with Myers Park Baptist Church, Myers Park Methodist Church, Myers Park Presbyterian Church and eventually others in the faith community regarding the issues and needs of homeless families as well as build on our existing programs. The next time you turn your key in the door, say a prayer for those who will not experience this ordinary miracle tonight. For families locked out, unable to make the rent, existing on the brink because of job loss, illness, a pile of overdue bills. Then join forces with us at Christ Church to welcome them home to a secure and hopeful future. Calling all open hearts.
