Description of Training Classes
Bridges Out of Poverty/ Class Matters Upcoming Training Dates:  

2 Hour Classes - This class is required for anyone who wants to volunteer with children at Rama Road Elementary School and is recommended for anyone participating in Missions. This class introduces the differences between middle class and poverty cultures. People will leave with an awareness that they cannot assume people in poverty are operating by the same norms, assumptions, and decision-making strategies as they.

6 Hour ClassesThis class is required for anyone who wants to volunteer with the Padlock Prevention Program and it is recommended for all Christ Church parishioners who would like to gain a more in-depth understanding of the differences between middle class and poverty cultures. This class equips people to use their understanding of these differences to build effective relationships across the economic class lines. People will leave with an awareness that they cannot assume people in poverty are operating by the same norms, assumptions, and decision-making strategies as they.

- Day 1 Part 1 Monday, January 9th from 6-9PM

- Day 1 Part 1 Monday, January 23rd from 6-9PM

 - Day 2 Part 1 Monday, February 13th from 6-9PM

 - Day 2 Part 1 Monday, February 27th from 6-9PM

 Rama Road Elementary School
You must complete one of the following options below. As long as you have begun completing the Bridges Out of Poverty/Class Matters Class you may begin volunteering with Rama Road School. We recommend the 6 hour class, but the 2 hour class is sufficient to volunteer with Rama Road School.

Please note you must also complete a CMS Volunteer Form before you begin your work with the school. To fill out a CMS volunteer form – click on http://www.cms.k12.nc.us. Click on “Volunteers and Partners”; scroll down until you see Related Links and click on “Register to Volunteer”; click on “New Volunteer”; complete entry. Also, in order to volunteer with students at CMS, a background check is required through their secure website (http://www.cms.k12.nc.us). You will need to provide your driver’s license number and your social security number in order to complete this background check. Thank you for your commitment to the Micah Initiative.
