Grief is a life changing experience. There is no one right way to grieve. As Christians, we celebrate and give thanks for the promise of eternal life, but grief is a Christian response in the face of loss. At Christ Church, we seek to be your spiritual home and provide a place of support, prayer, resources and encouragement in the midst of loss and sadness. We offer a variety of ministries to journey alongside our bereaved parishioners at the time of death and in the months and years to follow.
The death of a loved one takes its toll on the heart, body and soul. As Christians, we celebrate and give thanks for the promise of eternal life, but grief is a Christian response in the face of loss. At Christ Church, we seek to care for grieving parishioners in a variety of ways that provide support at the time of death and in the months and years to follow.
Bereavement Ministry Team
The Bereavement Ministry Team meets monthly to prepare handwritten letters of sympathy and support to parishioners who experience the death of a spouse, parent, sibling or child. Grieving parishioners receive a letter every month for a year following the death of their loved one, as well as helpful information about the nature of grief and loss. If you would like to learn more about this ministry, contact the Reverend Lisa Saunders at saundersl@christchurchcharlotte.org or 704-714-6952.
Caring Guild
Members of the Caring Guild provide receptions after funerals. The receptions provide a wonderful opportunity for bereaved families to receive the support of the friends and family who attend the funeral. To serve on the Caring Guild or learn more about this ministry, contact Lois Ann Partridge at lpartridge@carolina.rr.com or Kathy DuBose at kpmdub@aol.com or 704-366-5148.
Phoebe Guild
This guild delivers a meal to families and individuals who experience the death of an in-town family member. To serve on the Phoebe Guild, contact Robbie Horn at rhorn@carolina.rr.com or 704-366-3336 or Brenda Clough at brendaclough@live.com or 704-344-8411.
Ladies Encouraging Grief Support (LEGS)
LEGS gathers women whose husbands have died for mutual support and fellowship. LEGS meets 5-6 times a year, sometimes for a meal, sometimes for a related program and for outreach projects. To learn more about LEGS, contact the Reverend Lisa Saunders at saundersl@christchurchcharlotte.org or 704-714-6952.
All Saints' Day Eucharist
On or near November 1st, All Saints Day is celebrated in which the names of all those parishioners and loved ones of parishioners who have died in the previous year are included in the prayers. Parishioners grieving the loss of a family member are invited to a luncheon in the Blue Room following the Eucharist. To learn more about this service or to help with it, contact Gigi Harris at glharris@carolina.rr.com or 704-358-9262 or Leighann Swanson at lswanson@carolina.rr.com or 704-552-4436.
Honor Thy Father and Mother Worship Service
This special service is offered at the 5:00 PM Sunday Eucharist on a Sunday between Mother's Day and Father's Day. The scripture and prayers serve to honor the deceased parents of parishioners. Opportunity is given to write down the names of parents to be said aloud in the prayers during worship. For more information, contact the Reverend Lisa Saunders at saundersl@christchurchcharlotte.org or 704-714-6952.
