September Monthly Service Project: Stocking Local Food Pantries (back to top)

September’s monthly service project is to help local agencies like Loaves and Fishes and Second Harvest Food Bank stock their food pantries. Over the summer many of these agencies hit record lows for food and they now need our help to increase their supply. Please bring non-perishable goods like peanut butter or canned goods to the church. Second Harvest Food Bank is also collecting pet food for those who need help feeding their dogs and cats. All food should be placed in the red bins in the Rotunda.

Men's Shelter - September 5th & 10th (back to top)

Men’s Shelter is a great summer opportunity for families and friends. The Men’s Shelter is now serving men 365 days a year, and Christ Church will be serving all twelve months of the year. Christ Church will be assisting at the shelter on the following nights: September 5th and 10th. Volunteer ministers serve on a team of 5-8 parishioners who pick up food at the Charlotte Rescue Mission, purchase breakfast bars for the men, and serve by ladling food, passing out blankets and assisting with check-in at the Shelter from 5:30-7:30 PM. Contact Eric Clark at eclark@rinehartassociates.com to reserve a spot.

Bay St. Louis Mission Trip - October 25th - 30th (back to top)

With funding still a major obstacle, the Mission on the Bay recovery camp is closing the end of August, marked by the 5th anniversary of Katrina. Volunteers continue to be needed and will work either with a close-out crew from the Mission to complete projects already started or partner with Bay St Louis/Waveland Habitat which has a grant to complete 20 new homes by the end of the year and 20 more before June 1st. Missioners who have participated in any of the 10 trips in the past will happily share their memorable, holy and life changing experiences. Come join us! For information or questions about the trip, contact Winston Paschall (paschallw@carolina.rr.com) or Fred Paschall (fpaschall@carolina.rr.com) or call 704-543-8864 by October 1st if interested. To reserve a spot on a trip, please contact Christine DeLia at 704-714-6959 or deliac@christchurchcharlotte.org.

Family Promise - November 14th - 21st (back to top)

Family Promise provides housing for families working towards permanent housing who might otherwise be separated in conventional shelters. We are in need of overnight hosts and dinner hosts from Monday through Friday. We also need providers of fellowship and meals on Saturday and Sundays. We also need movers on Sunday afternoons when the families arrive and on Sunday mornings/afternoons when the families depart. Additionally, when our families graduate we need help moving them into their new homes which will now be taking place on Sunday afternoons (this is the most rewarding part seeing families get settled into their own homes).

Christ Church will be hosting Family Promise on the following dates in 2010: November 14th - 21st.

Family Promise guests will be staying at Christ Church. We need Overnight Hosts- Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday Nights.

Dinner: Wednesday, Friday Night, Sunday morning, Sunday lunch. We need movers on both Sundays at 2:00 PM. Thanks to all the many who have helped in the past.

If you are interested in any capacity now or in the future, please contact Sally Miller at 704-375-9519 or salshomile@yahoo.com or Ashley Weir at 704-996-7243 or jweir3@carolina.rr.com.
