The Oral History of Christ Church - March 14th (back to top) Come for some fabulous story-telling of courageous, humorous and grand moments. There are written histories, yet there is so much to learn. A panel of long-standing members will converse about their recollections. We have a sharp-witted, faithful, salty bunch who will speak of wonders to Christ Church. Count on laughter and increased respect. While this group is offered with new folks in mind, other not-so-new are welcome to come and contribute. The moderator will be The Rev. Verdery Kerr. The storytelling will be on Sundays from 6:00 - 7:15 PM on March 14th.
Lex Mathews Scholarships for Women - March 15th (Application Deadline) (back to top) Thirteen women across the Diocese of North Carolina will be in class this school year thanks in large part to the fact they’ve been awarded Lex Mathews Scholarships. The Diocesan ECW administers and helps finance the Lex Mathews Scholarship program, begun more than two decades ago by family and friends of the Rev. Lex Mathews, who at the time of his death headed the diocese’s office of Christian Social Ministries. It is geared toward women of the diocese, age 23 and older, seeking either specialized training in vocational or technical skills, a degree or certification below the masters or doctorate level, or continuing education courses for upgrading job skills. The scholarships, awarded annually in the spring, are an effort to help women, many of whom are solely responsible for their families, to achieve self-sufficiency by getting the education necessary to enter or reenter the workforce. Preference is given to Episcopalians or someone sponsored by an Episcopalian. For more information about Lex Mathews Scholarships contact Velma Bradshaw at lexmathews@ecw-nc.org or (252) 823-4266. Sages March Luncheon – March 22nd (back to top) We are honored to have one of our fellow parishioners, John McAlister, speaking on his hobby of woodworking which has become a passion for him. John will speak on Monday, March 22nd, in the Blue Room. John is a Davidson graduate, though his education was interrupted by his service in WWII. He was in the textile industry in Virginia for many years before moving to Charlotte in the early 70’s. He retired from the travel business in the late 80’s. John’s interest in woodworking began in the sixties when he fell in love with 18th century American furniture. He has had several prestigious awards and been featured in many publications. In 1978 John married Eugenia McCray Vanstory whose family were charter members of Christ Church. One of the most requested speaker topics on our Sages survey was members speaking on their hobbies and interests. John’s talk and demonstration should fit the bill perfectly!!! Please send your check for $10 made out to Christ Church Sages to Meredith Marchant at 2718 Wintergreen Drive, Charlotte, 28211-2715 by no later than Tuesday, March 16th. If you have questions, please call Eileen Griggs at 704-362-1662.
