Christ Church enjoys involving all ages in outreach ministry. Each fall and spring Christ Church holds Service Day where ministry opportunities are created for the entire parish - and specific emphasis is placed on creating ministry opportunities for young children. One of the goals of our strategic plan is to continue to develop more hands on opportunities for specific demographic groups including children and their families. Please continue to check all publications as we continue to create outreach opportunities for you. We are currently creating a group of missioners who will be exploring a "family friendly" mission trip in Duff, Tennessee. Listed below are some of the opportunities that are perfect for the whole family! For more information about any ministry or to inquire about other family friendly ministries, please contact Aimee Norman, Director of Outreach and Mission at normana@christchurchcharlotte.org or 704-714-6940.
Gleaning with Society of St. Andrews (SOSA)
SOSA offers multiple opportunities for people to drive to local fields to help harvest fresh food that is not commercially marketable. Watch News and Notices for updates or click here, www.endhunger.org, for SOSA's website and dates/times for next gleaning.
Room in the Inn (RITI)
Each Sunday night, December-March Christ Church hosts 12 homeless "Neighbors" (may be men, women, children, and/or families) at Christ Church. Volunteers assist with set-up of light weight mattresses, make beds, drive the church van to the Urban Ministry Center to pick up Neighbors, make/serve/share dinner with Neighbors, serve as overnight hosts, make sack lunches and provide hospitality for those who have no place to call home. Perfect family opportunity, especially for those with very young children. Contact Aimee Norman at normana@christchurchcharlotte.org or 704-714-6940 or to sign up for an evening, contact Lynn Muller at 704-365-6178.
Family Promise/Interfaith Hospitality Network
For one week each quarter, Christ Church hosts homeless families (up to 16 people) at Christ Church. Volunteers assist with set up on Sunday, make/serve/share dinner with guests each night of the week, play games with children, offer hospitality and serve as overnight hosts. In the past, families love to spend a Friday or Saturday night (or night when there is no school the following day) as a family unit. Families will be Christ Church March 1st-8th, 2009. Contact Sally Miller at salshomil@yahoo.com or Ashley Weir at 704-367-9707.
