Centering Prayer
Date:
Mondays
Time: 5:30 - 6:30 PM
Leader/Contact: Charles and Nancy Conner
chconnerjr@gmail.com
Centering Prayer is an ancient prayer discipline that is enjoying resurgence in today’s fractured, troubled world. It is a means of quieting the mind in order to cultivate interior silence. The intention of this form of prayer is to open oneself to the presence and healing activity of God at the center of one’s being. The method will be taught through video clips of Father Thomas Keating and the session will include scripture readings and centering prayer.  We will also learn use the teaching and writings of Thomas Merton and Frederick Buechner. We will gather weekly (Mondays 5:30-6:30 PM) beginning November 9 in the Prayer Room. For more information contact Nancy and Charles Conner at nconner101@yahoo.com and chconnerjr@gmail.com. “Open Mind, Open Heart” by Thomas Keating is a suggested resource. Books are available in Jenny Beaumont’s office for $10.

On Thursday Mornings, women of all ages gather to study, learn and grow together. The Thursday Morning Bible Study will be primarily clergy-led in partnership with guest teachers. We use an exegetical (involves an extensive and critical interpretation of a holy text) and a devotional approach to bible study. We critically look at the text, examine what the text is saying and then look at what the scripture is saying in our lives. We gather for a lecture from 10:00 - 11:15 AM, then move into our small groups to discuss the lecture and grow closer to one another in Christ. The small groups will help us make the connection between scripture and our lives and where we will have an opportunity to learn from one another.

Many women have asked, "What is this Bible Study like?" Well, it is many things, but most importantly it is a place to grow on our Spiritual Journey. This Bible Study feels like home: a place where we feel welcome and safe; a place to delve into scripture; a place to bring your true self and know the joy of openness and acceptance; a place to learn more about the Bible; a place to struggle with the big questions; a place to connect Bible Study with real life; a place to be challenged; a place to appreciate and learn from other perspectives; a place to grow closer to Christ; a place to feel uplifted and supported. It will be a Bible Study that brings us closer to God, closer to one another and closer to where He is calling us in the world. Click here to register online.

After Ray McGinnis's workshop on Writing the Sacred, many parishioners have asked for a small group that would follow from that workshop. And our new group was born! Beginning in September, we meet Monday evenings once a month from 7:00 - 8:30 PM. All are welcome. No experience necessary!

Writing may include journaling, poetry, essays, and even psalms. You'll have the opportunity to use prompts and group activities to facilitate your work. Novice and experienced writers are encouraged to participate! Group members will take turns leading activities and planning meetings. Resources used will include: "Writing the Sacred", by Ray McGinnis and "Spinning Words Into Gold", by Maureen Ryan Griffin.
