Serving Internationally at Christ Church

Seeing other parts of the world and serving those living in poverty in other parts of the world is a unique and wonderful way to grow in God's love. Christ Church is committed to educating our parish and serving those outside of the United States.

"I love mission trips because regardless of your age, you are serving a purpose. You are giving back to the world."
- Eloise Hamilton, Youth Participant

"A portion of the stewardship money contributed to Christ Church goes to something called 'outreach'. If you have ever wondered if that outreach money does any good, wonder no more. I have seen a school, supported by Christ Church in the middle of a very poor section of San Jose, Costa Rica, where the kids are happy, the teachers are engaged, and the grounds are immaculate. It was very gratifying to know that money and labor from Christ Church is making a positive difference in the lives of some kids. Those kids, and other Costa Ricans I met on our trip, certainly made a large, positive difference in my attitude and outlook on life."
- Jimmy Rayburn, Participant 2008

Costa Rica
To expand our idea of community to include the wider world, Christ Church hosts regular mission trips to Costa Rica, the companion diocese of the Diocese of North Carolina. Parishioners have, in past trips, worked to paint, refurbish and help renovate Hogar Escuela, a day care center in central San Jose. Christ Church has formed strong ties with students, parents, staff, clergy and with the Bishop of Costa Rica as ideas for continuing outreach projects have been explored. Over 50 Christ Church adults and youth have participated in these mission trips.

Botswana
As of 2008, we have now officially entered into a second companion relationship with the Diocese of Botswana. Bishop Mwamba was introduced at our Diocesan Convention in January and Christ Church hosted him in our parish that same weekend. This relationship will be evolving over time and we plan to be actively involved.

Millennial Development Goals (MDG)
In 2000, at the Millennium Summit, 189 nations from the United Nations adopted the Millennium Development Goals which are eight goals meant to reduce world suffering caused by extreme poverty by 2015. Christ Church seeks to educate our parish about MDGs and raise awareness through collections for the same.
