Bible and Book Study Groups
The primary focus of these groups is based on knowing God in a fuller way through educational study and discussion. Most of these groups meet year round. Questions about each group should be addressed to the community group leader or to Jenny Beaumont, beaumontj@christchurchcharlotte.org
ABS (Almost Bible Study) The ABS is a one-hour Bible Study that tackles a chapter of the Bible each week. Other than reading the chapter, no other preparation is required. Generally, there are between 8 and 16 participants. The group meets at the Dowd YMCA breakfast area, located at 400 Morehead Street (YMCA membership not required).
Body Builders We build up the Body of Christ! This group gathers twice a month at the church on Mondays at 11:00 AM to discuss and encourage avenues of spiritual growth through prayer, fellowship and reading scripture, literature, essays and poems. Once a month we come to the part of town where you work. We seek to engage you in your faith journey and build fellowship within the work and church communities. Each month, we gather for Noonday prayers, lunch and a guest speaker. Call or email Emily Kalmbach to register for lunch ($10 at the door). Once a month we come to the part of town where you work. Our study consists of a lecture and small group format. The lectures are taught by The Rev. Chip Edens, The Rev. Lisa Saunders, The Rev. John Porter-Acee, and guest speakers. Small group participation is encouraged, but not required. We also put our faith into action by participating in several service projects together during the year. Nursery care is provided for children age five and under. We gather to study scripture, enjoy fellowship and to worship together. We study in order to grow closer to God and to one another. This year we will look at two of Paul’s letters. We will also look at a few short stories to discover how literature can inform and challenge our faith! We welcome women of all ages. Fathers with children are welcome to join our Bible Study. Each week we delve into scripture and make connections between our everyday lives and our faith. This fall we are studying the Gospel of Matthew. The Deborah Book Guild meets the first Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM, in members’ homes. This year, we will be reading authors and literature of Greece. We read one book each month, and the list of books will be mailed to members the last week of August. Meetings begin with devotions and prayer. Members volunteer to do the presentation, and we have great discussionslistening, learning, and enjoying each other. New members and guests are always welcome. Once a month, the men of Christ Church gather for a study on topics of interest and importance to men. Led by clergy with guest speakers and presentations. Topics range from light-heartred to serious, but are always interesting and engaging. A catered breakfast is available. Palmer Trice leads a study of the Gospel of Mark. Palmer is an ordained Presbyterian minister and the founder of The Barnabas Center. The study will be interactive, while directed. Palmer will walk us into the stories of our Lord and those who walked with Him. What was it like to be there? All are welcome. Study of faith in novels and short stories, led by clergy. The group, led by clergy, studies the weekly Sunday lesson using the revised common lectionary. Optional breakfast is available for a nominal charge. Do you enjoy writing as part of your spiritual journey? Whether you are a novice or have been keeping a journal for years, this group is a perfect place to use your gifts to grow spiritually. We explore ways in which writing can help us deepen and express our faith. Each month, we use writing prompts to help us reflect on our faith journey. Earlier in 2009, this group coordinated the production of the Lenten meditation booklet.
