Weddings at Christ Church

Christian marriage is a solemn and public covenant between a man and a woman in the presence of God. In the Episcopal Church it is required that one, at least, of the parties must be a baptized Christian; that the ceremony be attested by at least two witnesses; and that the marriage conform to the laws of the State and the canons of this Church.

The Book of Common Prayer, p.422

Marriage is a solemn and joyous occasion that the Church is privileged to oversee. Christ Church performs wedding for both members and those who are seeking to unite with a local church body and desire an Episcopal wedding ceremony. Parishioners who are active members of other congregations should consult with their respective church for recommendations for wedding locations locations if their church does not accomodate weddings.

The first step is to contact Deborah Shoemake to receive a wedding policy booklet and fill out a wedding request form that will in turn be reviewed by the clergy of Christ Church to determine the possibility of a ceremony at Christ Church. Deborah can be contacted at shoemaked@christchurchcharlotte.org or 704-714-6951. Dates are usually set far in advance and premarital counseling is a required part of the process.
