Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Parish Nurse and Health Ministry
Since the beginning of the Christian Church, believers have been called upon to take care of their bodies and to care for the sick. These are two of the key concepts of our health ministry here at Christ Church.
Mission Statement of the Parish Nurse and Health Ministry The mission of the Parish Nurse and Health Ministry at Christ Church Charlotte is to utilize holistic care in nurturing our congregation and community in mind, body and spirit during illness through prayer, counsel, education, and referral services, and to promote good health and spirituality through education and preventative care programs.
Our Parish Nurse is available to discuss your health concerns. She is here as a health care resource for our church family (and extended family). She is available for meetings, phone calls and even to go to the doctor with you if needed. Call or email her your questions/concerns. Let her know when you are facing a health challenge, even if you think it is "minor" compared to what others are going through.
Some of the assistance our Parish Nurse has provided for parishioners:
- Gone on doctor's visits to act as another set of ears and take notes when there is a lot of information given
- Helped set up home care after a hospitalization
- Helped make the transition to Palliatve Care or Hospice
- Helped make the transition to assisted living and nursing homes
- Set up a medication schedule that was easy to follow and communicated needs to the doctor
- Made referrals to community organizations, specialists or counseling services
- Gathered health information on a new diagonosis and talked through it all
- Answered questions about medications, lab tests, diagnostic tests or medical advice such as dietary recommendations
- Was present as someone had to perform medical care for themselves or a loved one for the first time, like injections or wound care
- Listened--to caregivers, those newly diagnosed or facing a procedure and feeling overwhelmed, loved ones dealing with a difficult situation, or those in any number of other situations
Our Parish Nurse also writes health articles that are posted on the internet. Click here to read these and be sure to subscribe to the updates and make comments to let her know what you think.
