Community Groups at Christ Church
Our dream is for everyone to know, as Dietrich Bonhoeffer writes, “the uplifting experience of genuine
Christian community,” and to feel connected to Christ Church as your spiritual home. We are aware
that Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings can be a busy time here at Christ Church. Sometimes
you may leave wishing you had more of a chance to explore an aspect of faith or visit with fellow
parishioners. Therefore, in order to offer you more of an opportunity to go deeper in your relationship
with God and others, we are excited to offer a new program called “Community Groups at Christ
Church.”
What is a community group? A community group is a mid-week small group opportunity. Christ
Church has always had small group opportunities: but, we intend to focus on them and nurture them
like never before.
What kind of groups will be formed? We will have three different kinds of groups. First, we will
offer study groups that read the bible, explore books about Christianity and spirituality, discuss social
issues like poverty, and examine life issues such as marriage and parenting. Second, there will be
fellowship and support groups, where you can relax and be uplifted by the company of old and new
friends. And third, we will offer ministry groups for those who are interested in engaging in short term
ministry projects both at Christ Church and in our community.
How often will each group meet? Many of our groups will meet once a week for four to eight
weeks. We know that often people cannot make long-term commitments, due to family and travel
commitments. We think these short-term groups will be perfect for people who have a limited amount
of time but who want substance and desire a deeper connection to our community. However, we
will also offer continuous opportunities for those who have the time and desire to make an ongoing
commitment to a specific group throughout the year.
When will community groups meet? Groups will meet at a variety of days and times. Most will
meet at Christ Church unless another location is listed.
We are excited about all those in our spiritual home growing closer and deeper in their faith. We look
forward to building a broad, diverse network of community groups where we come together to love
God, care for each other and serve the world. We think there will be something for everyone, and we
welcome your feedback, as well as your leadership and ideas for community groups in the future.
