Episcopal Church Women (ECW)

We’re Every Woman

The ECW (Episcopal Church Women) is the inclusive circle of ALL women at Christ Church, divinely connected: giving, receiving, and growing through faith, friendship, and fellowship.

ECW has long been a vital part of Christ Church, working to raise funds for local and national missions, participating in hands-on ministries like Habitat for Humanity and Room in the Inn, as well as hosting inspirational events and social gatherings.

See the calendar (left or below; click event name for details) for upcoming programs and groups especially for women. Here are some of our annual events:

ECW Spring Retreat

Tuesday, April 2, 6:30 - 8:30 PM, All Saints' Hall
This annual spring dinner is an opportunity for fellowship and inspiration. Treat yourself and your special friends to an incredible evening together.

We will welcome guest speaker Dr. Kimberly Nash Alexander. Though many know Dr. Alexander as a speech language pathologist, minister, professor, pastor’s wife and mother, one of her passions has always been investing in the lives of women, especially those who lead whether in the market place, the church or the home.

Registration ($20 per person) is required by March 27.  Click here to register »

United Thank Offering (UTO)

The United Thank Offering (UTO) is a ministry of The Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church to nurture the habit of giving daily thanks to God. These prayers of thanksgiving start when we recognize and name our many daily blessings. Look for the UTO envelopes and give generously on Mother's Day Sunday.

Wednesday, May 8
Women ages 65 and up are invited for tea and an opportunity to share history and stories of Christ Church past, and consider our hopes and dreams for the future.

Mission Fundraising

ECW has donated over one million dollars to local and national nonprofits who focus on the needs of women and children in the local community and abroad. We do this with funds raised primarily from our Christmas Bazaar and GoodNews Shop.

GoodNews Shop
GoodNews was founded over forty years ago as a continuous fundraising stream for ECW, donating its proceeds to nonprofit initiatives. GoodNews is located on the upper level of All Saints' Hall (look for the green awning) with a tempting inventory of books, cards, pottery, jewelry, food and beautiful crafts. Learn more »

Christ Church Gallery
The hallway walls above All Saints’ Hall are adorned with the work of local artists, both aspiring and established. Sales benefit ECW mission funding. Learn more »

ECW Mission Funding Spotlight

In this section we share the “Good News” about local and international organizations supported by Christ Church ECW through annual projects and the GoodNews Shop.

Charlotte Bilingual Preschool

Charlotte Bilingual Preschool was formed in 1999 to prepare Spanish-speaking children for success in school and life by providing superior dual-language early childhood education. The preschool also supports students’ families with parenting, life skills and English-language classes, enabling them to sustain and nurture their children’s educational and emotional development.

According to Banu Valladares, the Executive Director, CBP is now serving 108 preschoolers, many more than when it began, but knows there are many more children in Charlotte who could benefit from the program.   They’ve also worked to meet state licensing standards and are very proud to have become a five star preschool in September 2014. This is the highest ranking by the North Carolina Division of Child Development.

Currently, the school is located in Hickory Grove Elementary School Annex.  It is a very happy place.
