Building Faith One Story at a Time
Christ Church continues its strong tradition of offering a Sunday School program that encourages children to explore their faith in exciting ways.
how sunday school is structured:
Classes begin at age two and meet from mid-September through May from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. Each class is led by a teaching team of six parishioners who enthusiastically share the Bible and their own faith each week.
We work hard to ensure that classes are kept small and that children are provided with age-appropriate lessons. Our fifth and sixth grade teams even use a combination of curricula so that our “tweens” have a special experience to bridge the elementary program with that of the Youth Department, which begins in seventh grade.
To register your child for Sunday School, please contact Emily Kalmbach.
Our Sunday School experience includes these unique programs:
We use our own curriculum, called Faith Builders, written by Christ Church clergy and staff and based on the lectionary Gospel readings, and specially designed for each age group with age-appropriate messages and activities.
FAITH + Art
We have created a one-of-a-kind ART PROGRAM for our early elementary Sunday School classes. This is not "crafts," but instead art history mixed with hands-on activities to explore faith stories from a different perspective. For example, we might look at several paintings depicting a bible story, and then examine what each artist is trying to convey from the story. We might learn weaving techniques related to a Moses basket, or try our hand at clay-work to explore the Holy Spirit and its symbolism in art.
Meaningful praise can take place through voice, instruments, and song, and is an especially effective mode of worship and play for young ones. All preschool-age classrooms participate in a music session each Sunday morning led by our fabulous music department. Come make a joyful noise!
We can’t wait to see you in Sunday School!
