Pre-K through 1st Grade
Wednesdays, 5:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Perfect for learning the basics of making music and healthy singing by playing musical games!
Pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first graders gather on Wednesday afternoons to learn the basics of making music and healthy singing by playing musical games. We include the Orff approach, combining music, movement, drama, and speech into lessons that are similar to a child’s world of play. Students play Orff instruments such as xylophones and drums, and sing several times a year in worship services. Directed by Lisa Lashley.
JUNIOR YOUTH CHORUS
2nd - 4th Grade
Wednesdays, 5:00 PM – 5:30 PM
Advanced singing and reading opportunities for young, eager
minds – ready to explore new musical territory.
Students in Junior Youth Chorus will gain an in-depth understanding of choral and church music history, as well as a relevant world music perspective based on our global church culture. We will sing for services in All Saints' Hall and the Church, and all choristers will be trained as junior cantors for the 11:15 AM Discovery Eucharist.
5th - 12th Grade
Wednesdays, 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Students in fifth through twelfth grade participate in this community-wide music education program offered at Christ Church during the school year. The chorus emphasizes the social aspect of singing, collaborating with partners such as Rama Road Elementary and bringing together youth from a variety of backgrounds and neighborhoods. The program teaches the importance of building bridges within our community, and excellence in singing. Our strength is in our diversity, our love of music, and our dedication to young singers. We will offer two annual concerts, sing for occasional Sunday services, and share our music throughout the city and beyond.
COMMUNITY MUSIC INITIATIVES
Our community music initiatives include parish-wide programs (Children's Music Clubs, Youth, and Adult Bands/Choirs) and an outreach chorister program at Rama Road Elementary. These ministries serve over 100 singers in the Charlotte metropolitan area.
