Special Events

Throughout the year we offer special programs, classes, groups, and events just for children and their families.

While Covid-19 restrictions ARE in place ...

Although we are not meeting in person, join us the third Sunday of June, July and August to worship with us in a modified, online Discovery Eucharist service.  You may also enjoy our last virtual Sunday School (May 31) we created for you, including songs, if you missed that Sunday. It is found here:  Sunday School.

Watch your email inbox for the monthly Children's Ministry Newsletter for other details and information from us! If you don't receive our newsletter email, please contact Emily Kalmbach so that she can make sure your correct email address is on file and she can check if you have accidentally unsubscribed from church communications.  We want to keep in touch!

Vacation Bible School - Compassion Camp

July 12 - August 14, at your own pace
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions in place, sadly our in-person VBS has been cancelled. However, we have an exciting opportunity for families to use Compassion Camp VBS curriculum created by Illustrated Ministry. Click here for information on how you and your children can do this great program at home - at your own pace - any time between July 12 and August 14!

Blessing of the Backpacks, supplies and technology

We celebrate and bless the beginning of another school year during this special liturgy.  For 2020, our August 16 8:45 AM online service and 9:45 AM Discovery online service will each have a blessing that incorporates technology and school gear to acknowledge that many tools will be used to support learning this year especially. Children, youth and adults are invited to gather their school gear and technology tools to be blessed as you join us for the online service of your choice. Clergy will bestow special prayers and blessings on your school tools and for those who carry/use them. This is a wonderful way for students of all ages to center their hearts and minds as we embark on a new academic year.

kanuga Family Weekend

New Dates: October 16 - 18, 2020
We will enjoy a fun weekend of learning and fellowship with other Christ Church families at the beautiful Kanuga Conference Center. Plan now to join us for a weekend you won't want to miss it!   Learn more about date change here »

Fourth Grade Bible Presentation

Each year, children in our fourth grade Sunday School classes work on learning the books of the Bible. If you registered your child as participating, we have a Bible for your fourth grader!  Be sure to tune in to the July 26 online service to see your child's Bible blessed.  All Bibles for those registered were delivered to your front porch.  If you have questions, please email Emily Kalmbach.

Past Events that may interest you once we return to in-person gatherings where we can offer these again:

These are our Bodies

This weekend workshop is a unique opportunity to place the gift of sexuality within the context of our Christian Faith for our fifth graders and their parents.  However, due to the restrictions of the Corona Virus and our current inability to meet in person, we have postponed any offering of this program until we can meet in person.  Please watch your emails from the church - direct and through our Children's Ministry newsletter email - for all updates on this program.  If for some reason we cannot offer the program in personal at all during the 2020 - 2021 program year, we will make arrangements to include your family for the following year.

Family Fellowship Events

Our Children's Ministry Commission hosts a family fellowship event at least once a semester to allow families to come together in their spiritual home to build relationships and community. Our last event, Family Bingo Night, was a huge hit! Watch for other opportunities to get together with Christ Church families once restrictions have been lifted.

Feb Fest

This adults only event was a great opportunity to get to know others from Christ Church at an informal night of fellowship, sponsored by the Nursery Committee and Young Adults Ministry. This winter, we gathered at Triple C Brewing for a fun evening to support the Family Impact Fund. The brewery donated $1 for each beverage purchased, plus all additional donations collected that night went to the Family Impact Fund. Look for additional events coming in the future.

Advent Festival

This inter-generational celebration to prepare us for the season of Advent is a cherished tradition. Each year, families are invited to make Advent wreaths and Jesse Tree ornaments, or assist with an on-site service project together. It is a great way to start the Advent season and spend time together. Volunteers are always welcome and needed!

Communion education

This class is a wonderful opportunity for parents and children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade to learn more about the traditions surrounding the Eucharist, led by clergy and the Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministry. Lunch will be provided to class participants. Childcare for younger siblings is available by reservation on the registration. This class is designed for parents to attend with their children.

Christmas Pageant

The Parish enjoys this annual reenactment of the miracle of the birth of Jesus by the children of Christ Church, with our third graders serving as the main cast. Learn more »

A Night in Bethlehem

This very special and meaningful interactive experience is for all ages, a drop-in experience of what it might have been like in Bethlehem on the night of Jesus' birth, with live animals and other activities.
