Special Events

Throughout the year we offer special programs, classes, groups, and events just for children and their families.

While Covid-19 restrictions ARE in place ...

Although we are not meeting in person, join us two Sundays a month beginning in September to worship with us in a modified, online Discovery Eucharist service.  Your children will also be able to enjoy virtual Sunday School.  Watch your email and our monthly newsletter for more information about digital Sunday School for children. Check here for access:  Sunday School.

If you do not receive our monthly Children's Ministry newsletter email, please contact Emily Kalmbach so that she can make sure your correct email address is on file and she can check if you have accidentally unsubscribed from church communications.  We want to keep in touch!

Online Art Auction

Each year the children of Christ Church create artwork to be auctioned off at the Southern Soirée. Because of the Coronaviirus outbreak, the Southern Soirée was cancelled last spring, leaving us with beautiful Christmas tree paintings created by local artists and then decorated by the children of Christ Church and CCK. We will hold an online auction of these paintings starting November 15 at 8 am and closing November 20 at 9 pm. There is a painting by each 2019 - 2020 CCK class and one painting for each age Sunday School class for ages 2-year-olds through Kindergarten. Please remember these would be the ages and classes of your child LAST spring (spring 2020). Proceeds will benefit all Children’s Miniistry. Stay tuned for more information!

Advent Festival

Advent begins Sunday, November 29, 2020. One of our cherished traditions is an inter-generational celebration to prepare us for the season of Advent. Families are invited to make Advent wreaths and Jesse Tree ornaments, or assist with a service project together. It is a great way to start the Advent season and spend time together.

While we cannot gather in person this year, you can continue this tradition with your family at home during Advent. Through October 25, you can order Jesse Tree ornament supplies (free), and Advent wreath candles and forms (to purchase). Supplies will be packaged for you to pick up the week of November 15 from the Rotunda porch. You will be notified by email when your supplies are ready.

Christmas Pageant

The Parish enjoys this annual reenactment of the miracle of the birth of Jesus by the children of Christ Church, with our third graders serving as the main cast. Stay tuned for more, as we re-imagine the Pageant for Advent 2020!

Vacation Bible School - Compassion Camp

We hope you enjoyed Compassion Camp VBS this summer as a family.  We'd love to hear your feedback and see photos if you took any of your family doing VBS this summer.  Send feedback and any photos to Sarah Ford.

Blessing of the Backpacks, supplies and technology

We celebrated and blessed the beginning of another school year during our special liturgy on August 16 at the 8:45 am online service and 9:45 am Discovery online service.  Our annual blessing tradition incorporated technology and school gear to acknowledge that many tools will be used to support learning this year, especially. Children, youth and adults gathered their school gear and technology tools to be blessed. Clergy bestowed special prayers and blessings on these tools and for those who carry/use them. This is a wonderful way for students of all ages to center their hearts and minds as we embark on a new academic year.

kanuga Family Weekend Cancelled for 2020

Unfortunately due to COVID, Kanuga has had to cancel all events at their camp. If you were planning to attend the fall 2020 weekend and had previously registered, please contact Emily Kalmbach with questions, or see her prior emails for communication to you.

Events that may interest you once we return to in-person gatherings:

Communion education

This class is a wonderful opportunity for parents and children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade to learn more about the traditions surrounding the Eucharist, led by clergy and the Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministry. Lunch will be provided to class participants. Childcare for younger siblings is available by reservation on the registration. This class is designed for parents to attend with their children.

These are our Bodies

This weekend workshop is a unique opportunity to place the gift of sexuality within the context of our Christian Faith for our fifth graders and their parents.  However, due to the restrictions of the Corona Virus and our current inability to meet in person, we have postponed any offering of this program until we can meet in person.  Please watch your emails from the church - direct and through our Children's Ministry newsletter email - for all updates on this program.  If for some reason we cannot offer the program in person during the 2020 - 2021 program year, we will make arrangements to include your family for the following year.

Family Fellowship Events

Our Children's Ministry Commission hosts a family fellowship event at least once a semester to allow families to come together in their spiritual home to build relationships and community. Our last event, Family Bingo Night, was a huge hit! Watch for other opportunities to get together with Christ Church families once restrictions have been lifted.

Feb Fest

This adults only event was a great opportunity to get to know others from Christ Church at an informal night of fellowship, sponsored by the Nursery Committee and Young Adults Ministry. This winter, we gathered at Triple C Brewing for a fun evening to support the Family Impact Fund. The brewery donated $1 for each beverage purchased, plus all additional donations collected that night went to the Family Impact Fund. Look for additional events coming in the future.

A Night in Bethlehem

This very special and meaningful interactive experience is for all ages, a drop-in experience of what it might have been like in Bethlehem on the night of Jesus' birth, with live animals and other activities.
