Lent: A Sacred Journey

During the Lenten season, we encourage you to seek God in new ways as we prepare to celebrate the good news of Christ’s resurrection at Easter. Please join us for Lenten conversations, spiritual practices, and learning through School of Faith, watch for new elements in our online worship, and gather with others in one of our Lenten groups.

Lenten ChallengeTaking the Next Step in Social Justice & Reconciliation

Zoom Gatherings: Wednesdays, February 10 - March 24 at 7 pm
You may have seen a number of organizations in the last year presenting a "21-Day Challenge" as a way of stepping more fully into social justice and racial reconciliation. We are offering our own version, with a variety of options depending on how much time you have and whether you opt for an easier, moderate, or more challenging Lenten journey. Click here to join the conversation»

Holy Week for Families

Intergenerational Stations of the Cross

On Good Friday, April 2, from 10 am to 1 pm, come walk the Stations of the Cross, individually or as a family, to remember the events of Jesus' last day. Supplies will be provided at the beginning of the experience, and you will be able to listen to each Station's description on the Christ Church app as you walk. This event will be outdoors at Christ Church, with social distancing and Covid-safe protocols. Register (required) here. In case of inclement weather, families will be invited to pick up their supplies from the Church.

Lenten Creation Care

Looking for a new discipline during Lent? Consider watching our recent Faith Forum about climate change with Katherine Hayhoe and adopt a new practice in your home that will benefit the Earth. Can you imagine the positive impact we could make if every household at Christ Church did one thing different for 40 days and shared what they were doing on social media?

  • Start composting food waste – anything but meat or dairy.
  • Change your lightbulbs to energy efficient LED bulbs.
  • Try using a shampoo or laundry bar instead of plastic bottles.
  • Turn off the water when brushing your teeth and try taking a shorter shower.
  • Participate in citywide recycling and make sure you are recycling the right way.
  • Plug appliances and technology into a power strip and turn off when not in use.
  • Buy seasonal and locally sourced fruits, vegetables and meats.
  • Reduce the use of Single Use Plastic Bags (SUPB)

Try one of these ideas or come up with your own and remember to post on your social media platforms.  We hope you join us as we look for new ways to care for the gift of Creation!
