Episcopal Church Women (ECW)

We're Every Woman

The ECW (Episcopal Church Women) is the inclusive circle of ALL women at Christ Church, divinely connected: giving, receiving, and growing through faith, friendship, and fellowship.

ECW has long been a vital part of Christ Church, working to raise funds for local and national missions, participating in hands-on ministries like Habitat for Humanity and Room in the Inn, as well as hosting inspirational events and social gatherings.

Here are some of our upcoming events:

ECW Spring Retreat, May 5 - 7, 2017

"Building a Stronger Spiritual Foundation"

We are excited to return to the newly-renovated Kanuga Conference Center this year, only a two-hour drive from Charlotte. The crisp mountain weather will lend opportunities for fellowship and relaxation for women of all ages. Our own Jenny Beaumont will help us explore "Building a Stronger Spiritual Foundation." Ready to go deeper in your spiritual life? No matter where we are in our faith journey, we can all have a richer and fuller faith life. How do we develop and nurture a faith in the good times and the bad? Where do we see the will of God and our calling working together? We will explore how to depend our spiritual walk and take home some new practices and perspectives to deepen our life with God (and other people, too).

Mission Fundraising

ECW has donated over one million dollars to local and national nonprofits who focus on the needs of women and children in the local community and abroad. We do this with funds raised primarily from our Christmas Bazaar and GoodNews Shop.

GoodNews Shop
GoodNews was founded over forty years ago as a continuous fundraising stream for ECW, donating its proceeds to nonprofit initiatives. GoodNews is located on the upper level of All Saints' Hall (look for the green awning) with a tempting inventory of books, cards, pottery, jewelry, food and beautiful crafts. Learn more »

Christ Church Gallery
The hallway walls above All Saints’ Hall are adorned with the work of local artists, both aspiring and established. Sales benefit ECW mission funding. Learn more »

ECW Mission Funding Spotlight

In this section we share the “Good News” about local and international organizations supported by Christ Church ECW through annual projects and the GoodNews Shop.

Mitchell's Fund

The Mitchell Bays Turner Pediatric Fund was established in 2012 to honor the son of founder and chairman, Meg McElwain. Mitchell was diagnosed at age three months with a rare form of Infant Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Mitchie, as he was affectionately called, died just weeks after his second birthday from liver and kidney failure caused by the chemotherapy and antibiotic medications he took to fight his disease.

Mitchell’s Fund supports the social needs (such as utility bills and mortgage payments) of families with children facing the crisis of life-threatening pediatric illnesses. The heart of Mitchell’s Fund is pediatric cancer, but the Fund also supports families grappling with mental illness, sickle-cell anemia, extreme prematurity, chronic diseases and more.

One hundred percent of all contributions to the Fund are used to pay for living expenses, counseling services and travel for families of very sick children. When a child is sick, life goes on in many ways. The mission of Mitchell’s Fund is to alleviate some of the financial stress parents face so they can focus 100% of their energy on caring for and being with their sick child.
