Welcome Allen Pruitt

November 19, 2021

We are delighted to announce that The Reverend Allen Pruitt will be joining our clergy and staff team on February 15 as Associate Rector for Adult Spiritual Formation.

Our search committee conducted an extensive search over the last six months, looking for a priest with a missional mindset and the right mix of skills and creativity to lead innovative and meaningful spiritual growth opportunities for all of us, meeting each person where they are in their own faith journey.

We enthusiastically believe we have found that in Allen. He will join our clergy in leading worship, preaching, and teaching, as well as collaborating and connecting with our parish at large.

Please see the message from Allen below, and stay tuned for more information about plans to welcome Allen and his family to our Spiritual Home.

    Good people of Christ Church,

I am excited that we will get to know each other over the coming years! Here’s a short introduction before we meet in February. My wife, Casey, and I have two girls, Abby Grace (16) and Ila (12). As a family we love to travel, and in one configuration or another have enjoyed Italy, Ukraine, the Grand Canyon, Northern California, and England. Casey and I both like to cook, but perhaps most enjoy hiking and sitting by our favorite north Georgia creek.

I’ve spent the last eleven years as rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in LaGrange, Georgia. Along with that parish work, I have served as a convocational dean, on the Commission on Ministry for the Diocese of Atlanta, and on the faculty for “Learning to Lead,” the diocesan class for clergy in new positions. Teaching, vocational discernment, and learning alongside others are important to my work.

Writing is a passion of mine, whether for sermons, articles, or the short novel that I’ve been trying to finish for a few years. One of my favorite groups at St. Mark’s was “Poetry and Pinot,” a place to share good poems and good wine. The poetry of David Ignatow is a particular joy to me.

Though I have little talent for making it, I love listening to all kinds of music. Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Shinyribs, and Charley Crockett are in regular rotation, along with podcasts like "Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend" and "Smartless." Like just about everyone on the planet, "Ted Lasso" has become a favorite show since it debuted at just the right time in 2020. I’m also a big fan of Liverpool Football Club in the English Premier League and look forward to the fact that Charlotte is getting its very own MLS team soon!

Since I will be starting in mid-February, my family will be staying in LaGrange to finish the school year. We look forward to finding a house and settling in to a great city with great people.

Most of all, I want you to know how excited I am about joining you at Christ Church in the near future. I have been struck by the generosity of every person I met during the interview process. The fantastic clergy team and lay leadership you have are such a wonderful gift and I am glad for the opportunity to share my own gifts alongside you all.

Keep my family and me in your prayers these next weeks, even as you are already in mine.

    The Reverend Allen Pruitt
