A Year of Celebration
Throughout the year we will weave celebrations of our vibrant history into our parish life. Below are just a few of our plans. We hope that you will find multiple ways to engage and be inspired as the year unfolds!
During the fall, we will prayerfully seek God’s divine light together and explore God's will for us as a Church community. In the spring, we will explore the divine light within each of us and learn how we might cultivate it in ourselves. By the end of the year, we hope to find ways as individuals and as a community to shine our light into the world.
On October 1, The Reverend Chip Edens will share thoughts on our 75th Anniversary, including how we can learn from our past as we explore together our dreams for the future of Christ Church.
Diocesan Bicentennial Display
Christ Church will welcome the Diocese of North Carolina’s bicentennial exhibit with a wine and cheese reception and presentation by Lynn Hoke, the Diocesean Archivist, on September 27, 6:30 - 7:30 PM in the Good News Café. This fascinating display includes a timeline of historical facts and photographs which date back to the founding of the Diocese in 1817. The exhibit will remain in the Good News Café through October 10. Stop by and browse a bit!
Our outreach celebration week, Serv-a-bration, will be November 5 - 11. We have a number of special activities planned during the week in recognition of our 75 years of service in the community. We are calling parishioners of all ages and stages to take part, as we have an audacious goal of increasing our participation by 50% to 750 people! Please mark your calendars and plan on being a part of making that happen!
Christ Church History Display
In early 2018, we will commemorate our own rich history with a historical banner display that will include a timeline with historical facts and photographs. The display will be available to travel around the Church for exploration and discussion in adult, children, and youth formation classes.
We will delight in the stories of our past through a series of videos, which will be released later in the year. A diverse group of parishioners are being asked about the events over the years that have drawn us together as a Church, sent us out into the world, and fortified us as a community. Thank you to those who have participated in this project!
We will capture the history of Christ Church in a beautiful book, filled with stories, memories, historic timelines, and photographs from our archives. Our hope is that the book will speak not just to Church history buffs and long-time members, but also to young families, newcomers and others, so that everyone’s faith might be deepened by appreciating anew the Church through this book. The book will be released just in time for our 75th Anniversary celebration in April.
A wonderful group of volunteers has been hard at work all year gathering pictures and other memorabilia, restoring and adding to our archives. Over the course of the year, we will continuously add interesting archive finds to the website, under Look What We Found. If you have memorabilia to add to our collection, please drop off items at the Rotunda front desk during Church office hours. Please identify the people, events, locations and dates your photos. You may also scan and email photos or documents to Lois Ann Partridge at .
There will also be various opportunities to engage in outreach, community conversations and dreaming about “what’s next.” Learn more about these plans here »
Our community-wide celebration is planned for Friday, April 13 at Christ Church. We can't wait to share the details. You won't want to miss it.
