A Year of Celebration
Throughout the year we will weave celebrations of our vibrant history into our parish life. Below are just a few of our plans. We hope that you will find multiple ways to engage and be inspired as the year unfolds! By the end of the year, we hope to find ways as individuals and as a community to shine our light into the world.
Celebration WEEKEND APRIL 13 - 15, 2018
Celebration Dinner, Friday, April 13
This informal and festive dinner gathering for adults on the lawn of Christ Church included an art auction featuring work from many talented parishioners. Proceeds of $8,100 from the art auction will be used to support outreach. View photos from this wonderful event here »
Rector's Class, Sunday, April 15
This conversation with The Reverend Chip Edens and other parish leaders reflected on our history and discussed how, with God's help, we can live into the next chapter as light-bearers of love, hope, generosity and courage. View video »
75th Anniversary Historical Display and Book
An impressive timeline display in the GoodNews Shop chronicles major milestones of Christ Church's rich history through pictures and words.
Let Your Light Shine is a beautiful book filled with photos and stories of Christ Church's history, compiled by Ken Garfield. This special keepsake will be on sale for $20 (cash and checks only). All proceeds will fund outreach initiatives through the Christ Church Foundation. It is available in the GoodNews Shop.
Diocesan Bicentennial Display
Christ Church welcomed the Diocese of North Carolina’s bicentennial exhibit with a wine and cheese reception and presentation by Lynn Hoke, the Diocesean Archivist, on September 27. This fascinating display included a timeline of historical facts and photographs which date back to the founding of the Diocese in 1817, and remained on display through October 10.
outreach & Mission
During our outreach celebration week, Serve-a-bration, November 5 - 11, 2017, we engaged in a number of special activities to recognize our 75 years of service in the community. Parishioners of all ages and stages took part in this wonderful outreach effort.
On February 28, all past mission trip and pilgrimage participants were invited to a reunion to celebrate and share memories.
We will delight in the stories of our past through a series of videos, which will be released later in the year. A diverse group of parishioners are being asked about the events over the years that have drawn us together as a Church, sent us out into the world, and fortified us as a community. Thank you to those who have participated in this project!
A wonderful group of volunteers has been hard at work all year gathering pictures and other memorabilia, restoring and adding to our archives. Over the course of the year, we will continuously add interesting archive finds to the website, under Look What We Found. If you have memorabilia to add to our collection, please drop off items at the Rotunda front desk during Church office hours. Please identify the people, events, locations and dates your photos. You may also scan and email photos or documents to Lois Ann Partridge at .
There will also be various opportunities to engage in outreach, community conversations and dreaming about “what’s next.” Learn more about these plans here »
